HIKE BERLIN hiking scene through forests, meadows and countryside

HIKE BERLIN is a community-based initiative bringing people together through hiking, outdoor exploration and shared experiences.

Before joining a hike: Read the route details, assess your abilities and prepare for the conditions. Participation is voluntary; legal duties of care still apply.

Participation & personal responsibility

Participation in HIKE BERLIN hikes is voluntary. Every participant is responsible for assessing their fitness, health, experience and ability to complete the planned route safely. Before registering, review the published distance, terrain, difficulty, pace, duration, meeting and finishing points. Wear suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Also bring sufficient food, water and any necessary personal equipment or medication. If the route exceeds your abilities or you are unwell, do not participate.

Outdoor risks

Hiking carries inherent risks, including uneven or slippery ground, exposed roots, falling branches, adverse weather, poor visibility, encounters with animals, injuries and other natural hazards. Routes and conditions can change without warning. Exercise reasonable care, respect other walkers and the environment, and promptly communicate any safety concerns.

Role of organisers

HIKE BERLIN organisers coordinate community outings, including route selection, event information and practical arrangements. HIKE BERLIN is a volunteer-led hiking community. Our organisers bring people together, plan routes and coordinate group hikes. They are fellow hiking enthusiasts, not professional guides. Organisers do not provide continuous individual supervision or guarantee that a route is free of hazards. This description does not remove any duty of care that arises under applicable law or from the way an event is actually organised or conducted.

During a hike

Follow reasonable organisational instructions and stay aware of the group’s agreed route, pace and meeting points. Tell the organiser promptly if you experience difficulty or notice a significant hazard. Organisers may adapt, shorten, cancel or end an outing when conditions or practical circumstances require it. Participants must continue to make their own assessment of whether it is safe for them to proceed.

Leaving early & emergencies

If you decide to leave the group before the end, inform the organiser whenever reasonably possible and arrange your own safe onward travel. Do not assume that an organiser can escort you individually. In an emergency, call 112. Participants should have a charged phone and be prepared for areas with limited reception. HIKE BERLIN cannot promise immediate assistance or rescue.

Liability

Participation is voluntary and involves ordinary risks of outdoor activity. Nothing in these conditions excludes or limits liability of HIKE BERLIN, its organisers or other persons where doing so would be unlawful. In particular, liability for injury to life, body or health caused by negligent breaches of duty, and liability for other damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, remain unaffected. Any other limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by German law.

Acknowledgement

By registering for a hike, participants confirm that they have been given access to this information and understand the nature of the activity, its foreseeable outdoor risks and their own responsibilities. Registration does not waive statutory rights. Participants under 18 should contact the organiser before registering; participation by minors requires prior agreement and appropriate supervision arrangements.
